Federer Slams It All
Roger Federer became the Sixth and the third in open era to win all Grand Slams titles on Sunday by beating Robin Soderling at Roland Garros. He joined the likes of Fred Perry, Don Budge, Rod Laver, Roy Emerson and of course Andre Agassi who presented him the trophy.
With this win he equaled Pete Sampras’s record of 14 Grand Slam titles. It was one of the most anticipated title for him after losing the last four finals to the current world no. 1, Rafael Nadal. The tears at the Rod Laver Arena and the tears at the Roland Garros can be a very much different for Federer, who admits that it is a very emotional time for his private life as well with Mirka(his wife) pregnant, who is very much involved in both his private and professional life.
The question on whether he can regain the world no.1 spot which he lost to Nadal in 2008 (though he became the first man to lift the trophy at the Flushing Meadows and at Wimbledon for five consecutive year) still remains the same for it was the first time in the last five years the current No. 1 and No.2 didn’t fight for the title at Roland Garros. With wife Miroslava “Mirka” Vavrinec expecting a baby, can the former World No.1 clinch the Wimbledon title? “It might be the greatest victory of my career. Now, I can play in peace for the rest of my career and no one will ever say that I have not won Roland Garros” said Federer after winning against Soderling by 6-1,7-6(1),6-4, in Paris.
